Friday 3rd May 10.30-4.30pm: Accessing Archives conference organised by Gateways to the First World War at Hampshire Records Office, Sussex Street, Winchester SO23 8TH.
This event brings together archives professionals and researchers to share advice on using national, local and online collections to discover more about the First World War. Gather hints and tips on accessing archive material and learn about some of the fascinating records that have survived and can be used to deepen our understanding of wartime lives.
Speakers include: Dr George Hay (The National Archives), Dr Chris Kempshall (University of Kent) Heather Needham (Hampshire Archives and Local Studies) and Sarah Paterson (Imperial War Museums).
Wednesday 22nd May 10-12.30pm: Genealogical Training for our Volunteer Heritage Researchers with the Shalom Sussex project. and look at opportunities and activities. To take place upstairs at Jubilee Library, Jubilee St, Brighton BN1 1GE
Wednesday 22nd May 1-2pm: Middle Street Synagogue Lunchtime Talk: local historian Michael Crook – “The Brighton and Hove Jewish Community Before, During and After the First World War”

Friday 14th June 1-5pm: Creating exhibitions and Hosting Heritage Events: A study day for community heritage researchers at Wolfson Room NB01, Institute of Historical Research, London.
Join us for a free workshop at the Institute of Historical Research in London where you can hear from both the community and academia on best practice in exhibition curation and fresh and exciting ideas for engaging the wider public in what your research has revealed.
Speakers include: Dr Helen Brooks (University of Kent), Jenny Flood (Newhaven Town Council),Clare Millett and Mary Kemp (Westgate Community Trust), Janys Thornton and Chris Reed (Sheppey Promenade)and Jasper Bouverie (Funder Films).

Tuesday 10th December 2019 2.30-6pm: One day conference on Shalom Sussex – Jewish People in WWI, Brighton. Room 105, University of Brighton, Edward Street, Brighton.
Speakers include – Dr Gideon Reuveni – Director of the Centre for German-Jewish Studies, and Dr Mark Connelly a specialist in Jewish memorialisation post-WWI and Jewish veterans in the 1920s.
Additional speakers are the Shalom Sussex project manager and researchers sharing their findings.
Tuesday 10th December 2019 2.30-6pm: EXHIBITION – JEWS OF SOUTH EAST ENGLAND. This exhibition will be on show at the Shalom Sussex Symposium on 10th December at the University of Brighton.
Consisting of thirteen large display banners and a table of fascinating artefacts, the exhibition tells the story of the great challenges faced by the Jewish community in this country since the eleventh century, as well as giving key bits of information about landmarks and documents that can be found in many local cities, towns and villages.
